Scholars Urge Armenia to Officially Recognize Assyrian Genocide

(AINA) — The Assyrian Genocide Research Center (Seyfo), based in Sweden, has sent a letter to Serzh A. Sargsyan, the President of the Republic of Armenia, urging Armenia to officially recognize the Assyrian genocide, which occurred simultaneously with the Armenian Genocide. Assyrians, Armenians and Greeks were all victims of genocide between 1914 and 1923, a campaign which aimed, and succeeded, in cleansing the Ottoman Empire of most of it’s Christian subjects. I. Einleitung
Seit Jahren versuchen viele Assyrer, deren assyrische Familiennamen während des Genozids (Seyfo) von 1915 und in der Folgezeit gegen deren Willen türkisiert wurden, unter nahezu unüberwindbaren Hürden seitens der deutschen Behörden zu ändern. Bereits die Tatsache, dass während des Seyfos (Genozid) 2/3 der assyrischen Bevölkerung ihr Leben unverschuldet lassen musste, belastet die Nachfahren der Überlebenden und Angehörige immer noch zutiefst.
